[edit] Team history

Formed in 1994, the original name of the team was "Mando Winia", named after a sub-company of the Halla Group. It changed its name in 1998 to "Halla Winia", and was a powerhouse in the Korea Ice Hockey League, winning the league championship five times.

Once the Korea League folded, Halla Winia was the only company team that survived, absorbing talent from one of their rivals, the Dong-Won Dreams as they joined the Asia Ice Hockey League as a founding member.

With the expiry of a sponsorship contract, the Anyang Halla Winia removed the Winia (the name of an air conditioner) from their name for the 2005-2006 year.

In the spring of 2008, the head coach Otakar Vejvoda Sr. resigned and the former all time point leader Eue-Sik SHIM took over the position. Shim becomes the 4th head coach in team history. The team also fired the long time former coach & the Vice G.M. Sae-Il Kim in March of 2008. G.M Seung-Jun Yang is now in full charge of the hockey club.

The team also hired National Hockey League commentator of SBSsports(Cable TV), Samuel H. Kim for the Front. Kim is in charged with North American players scout. Kim's first project was C/LW Brock Radunske, Edmonton Oilers' 3rd round pick of 2002 entry draft. Radunske becomes a first North American born player to sign with the club. Kim's second project was Defenceman Brad Fast, a former teammate of Brock Radunske at Michigan State University. Fast was selected by Carolina Hurricanes 3rd round(84 overall) in 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

[edit] Media

The ANYANG HALLA Hockey Club launched a new radio broadcast deal in 2007 with Afreeca.com --It was the first time in Aisa League Hockey history and first team to do the radio show for home game event.
