Andrew Richard "Andy" McDonald, played by Nicholas Cochrane, was a fictional character on the soap opera Coronation Street.
Andy arrived on the Street with his family as an adolescent in 1989. Studious and conscientious, he passed his exams and went to university but dropped out, much to his parents dismay, because of a girlfriend who eventually left him. He worked at a supermarket as a trainee manager for a while, but eventually left Weatherfield to move to Spain, where he remains as a teacher of English. He has made only sporadic returns to the Street when the script demands it - most recently for the re-marriage of his parents and then the wedding of his twin brother, Steve, where he served as best man.
Andy was supposed to give Liz away at her wedding to Vernon Tomlin, but Andy rang Steve several days prior, mentioning he had broken his leg, rendering him unable to travel for six weeks.
