Alkaid, full title Alkaid, Former Emperor of the Demon Palace, is a fictional character appearing in the .hack franchise. Like most characters in the franchise, she is a player of the fictional MMORPG The World. She is first seen in Icolo's guild. Icolo is a guild in which only arena emperors may enter. She and Haseo quickly begin to argue and the argument ended when Alkaid challenged Haseo in the demon palace, saying he was weak.

When fighting Haseo in the arena, Alkaid came close to victory. Haseo then lost control of his avatar, Skeith using it to attack Alkaid and making him victorious. Alkaid then exits, calling Haseo a cheater.

In volume 2, Haseo sees Alkaid running after Sirius, the Holy Palace emperor and one of Alkaid's close friends. Sirius is seemingly mad and snaps at Alkaid, mentioning that she is trying to steal `it'. Alkaid then invites Haseo to a dungeon and tells him that she wants Haseo to assist her in the Holy Palace tounament so that she can talk to Sirius in the arena. Alkaid and Haseo develop a mild romantic relationship and Haseo finds out from Pi that Sirius is infected with AIDA. Later in the game, Haseo receives an e-mail from Alkaid saying that someone sent her an e-mail telling her to meet the person at a place to get information about Sirius. Haseo goes to that area only to find Alkaid's character data disintegrating. Alkaid falls ino a coma afterwards.

Close to the end of volume 3, Alkaid awakens from her coma and helps fight the Cubia gomoras which are appearing in The World.

[edit] The World

In .hack//G.U., Alkaid was first introduced when the protagonist and main character Haseo was called by another character, Antares, to witness the state of Icolo, a guild he created for the Champions of the "Battle Arena". Although Alkaid is no longer a member of Icolo since she has lost to the powerful Endrance, she still had access to Icolo with the guild's key card. Alkaid's first impression about Haseo was that he didn't look like much. Further into the series, Alkaid reveals a grudge against Endrance for defeating her. Even though she cannot see Avatars, which Endrance had been using to win, Alkaid has figured out that something went wrong and Endrance was not a normal PC. Soon afterwards, Haseo faces off with Alkaid in the Demon Palace. No matter how strong Haseo was, Alkaid proved herself to be stronger, and Haseo would have lost if not for summoning his Avatar Skeith and destroying Alkaid and her party members in an instant death attack. Alkaid also suspected and accused Haseo of cheating at an optional quest near the end of the game.

In the second volume, Alkaid asks for Haseo's help in investigating fellow guildmember Sirius's strange behaviour (which was produced by AIDA). She gains a romantic interest for Haseo, then falls into a coma by being PKed by the PKer Bordeaux, whom at the time was infected by an AIDA.

In the third volume towards the final battle with Cubia, Alkaid returns from a coma and assist Haseo in party by clearing the way to the outer dungeon with the rest of Icolo. When she appears Haseo embraces her, which makes her nervous and blush as usual. Haseo scolds her for not informing him sooner that she had awakened, she tells him not to act like that because she had previously called him a strong man before she fell comatose.
