alexandru averescu was born in babele which is close to izmail, but not in the city itself, hence the renaming of the village to averescu.

Actually, in 1859, when he was born, his hometown (and the whole Southern Bessarabia) was part of the "United Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia", so its name was "Babele". :-) bogdan 15:10, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, yeah, but I've phrased it without mentioning where it was situated at the time, and took the lead by what it is named now. I'm always confused about what criteria I should apply and how to do it best, so, if this looks stupid, feel free to rephrase. Dahn 17:17, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
