[edit] Biography

Aleksandra Pileva is one of the new popular talents currently gaining media attention in the Republic of Macedonia and across the former Yugoslavian republics where music has remained unaffected by politics. In her home town of Negotino, she has finished elementary and secondary school and is finished studying at the Technological University in Skopje. This summer, she was accepted in Kumanovo's "Euro College" along with M2 Production colleagues, Lambe Alabakoski and Elena Risteska. Aleksandra married Zoran Cadev in 2007.

Aleksandra started singing at the age of 6 and participated in the program called "The Best Voice". Her first performance at a festival was in 1996 at MakFest with the song "Ti Si Toj" ("You're The One"). In the following year she released her next single "Vo Potraga" ("In Search Of"). In 2000 she performed in clubs as part of the group "Session Selection". Later that year she participated in MakFest again with the song "Iskriveni Sliki" ("Twisted Pictures").

In 2002 with the song "Angel Moj" ("My Angel"), she won award "Play: Search for a new Star" and signed a contract with the company M2 Productions. In 2003, four of her songs were included in a compilation CD from the "Play" competition, which all became hit radio singles receiving lots of airplay. In her third try at the MakFest festival she won the Public Award, Best Interpretation Award, and first place with the song "Nema Uteha" ("No Consolation")composed by Vesna Malinova. In 2005, Aleksandra competed in the "Song for Eurovision" competition against Martin Vucic. She sang four songs titled "Ne" ("No"), "Baknez Za Kraj" ("A Kiss For Goodbye"), "Izvini" ("Sorry"), and "Sonce i Mesecina" ("Sun and Moon"). In the final round she was competing with "Sonce i Mesecina" composed by Darko Dimitrov and in a huge scandal, she lost to Martin Vučić's song "Ti si Son". There was a huge fight over who would go to Eurovision, since the jury chosen was biased in Martin's favour and the audience votes were debatable since Aleksandra won the televote unanimously. In the end, Aleksandra did not go to Eurovision; however, her song "Sonce i Mesecina" became a huge summer hit and launched her into fame. Aleksandra competed in the Montenegrin festival, Budva 2005, with the same song and reached 5th place. In autumn 2005, Aleksandra released her debut album called "Sonce i Mesecina", which contained 9 songs in total. For promotion, Aleksandra released "Ti Gubis Se" ("You Lose Everything") as a new single from the album. Amidst the sudden interest in the singer, she travelled to France to record brand new English songs with Leroy Chambers for an upcoming English language album. That September, Aleksandra Pileva went to Braşov, Romania to compete in the Golden Stag Festival with "Sonce i Mesecina". The song was well received and gained a standing ovation from the audience in the hall.

In 2006, Aleksandra travelled to Athens,Greece to provide the backing vocals and show her support for Elena Risteska and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYR Macedonia) entry, "Ninanajna". In June, Aleksandra competed in Budva once again, this time with a Serbian song and in a duet with Lame Alabakoski. They reached the final with "Da Mogu Vreme Vratiti" ("If We Could Turn Back The Time") and finished in 12th place. Aleksandra Pileva officially dropped her record label, M2 Productions, because of poor promotion and management of her career. She stated that she hasn't released a song in over a year and half she feels that M2 cannot help her reach a successful career. Now free of her record label, Aleksandra will participate in this years Makfest in Stip, with the song "Srebreni Vojnici" ("Silver Soldiers")composed by Vesna Malinova. Aleksandra competed in the first semi-final of Makfest and opened the competition as the first performer of the night. Aleksandra qualified to the final by earning second place in her semi-final. The final, which was held on 14 October, saw Aleksandra climb the scoreboard to reach a successful second place overall in the festival. "Srebreni Vojnici" was a favourite in both public and jury vote, and was also awarded "Best Interpretation" by the public. Aleksandra filmed a music video for her successful song. The videoclip of the song was released shortly after the Makfest performance. Aleksandra has the honor of being the first performer to sing in the Macedonian language that has entered an MTV chart. "Letaj Sa Mene" was the latest addition to the MTV Adria playlists in December 2007.

Aleksandra is currently working on her follow-up album to "Sonce i Mesecina", recording songs and preparing material.
