Albert Geelvinck

Albert Geelvinck (25 August 1647, Amsterdam - 27 September 1693, Amsterdam), son of Cornelis, was a Dutch lawyer who followed his father as a member in Amsterdam's vroedschap.
The family had acquired their wealth through merchant shipping on Africa, Surinam and the West Indies and produced five burgomasters (mayors) in the 17th and 18th century. Geelvinck was working in the city administration, in the WIC and at the Association of Surinam, but never became a burgomaster. When he died in 1693 he was followed into politics by his older brother Joan.
In 1680 Albert Geelvinck married Sara Hinlopen, daughter of Jan Jacobszoon Hinlopen, and their house is now the Museum Geelvinck-Hinlopen.
