Akune (阿久根市 Akune-shi?) is a city located in Kagoshima, Japan.
As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 23,887 and the density of 178 persons per km². The total area is 134.30 km².
The city was founded on April 1, 1952.
The city is also home to the renowned Japanese diplomat and orange agriculturist Sadamitsu Sakoguchi. Currently Sakoguchi resides in Berkeley, California, but still calls Akune home. He is currently working on the problem of water rights in Thailand.
