[edit] Hybrids not allowed to ride for free

I emailed customer service at the toll roads asking specifically about hybrids in the 3+ lane and got this response:

While we do offer a special account type for Zero Emissions vehicles, the hybrid vehicles you see traveling in our 3+ Lane with only one occupent are doing so in violation. Hybrid vehicles do not qualify for our Zero Emissions account, and the DMV issued Clean Air decals only apply to public HOV lanes and not to toll facilities, such as the Express Lanes. When caught by the California Highway Patrol, these violators will be issued citations for both toll evasion as well as carpool lane violation. The fines associated for these citations when issued by the CHP are well over $300.

The article states:

Carpoolers with three or more passengers, two seater vehicles with both seats occupied, motorcycles, vehicles with disabled placards, hybrid vehicles (with the appropriate sticker), and vehicles fueled by electricity or natural gas (with the appropriate stickers) are permitted to travel the road for free.

This isn't correct and people who follow this advice may wind up getting ticketed. Hybrid vehicles are not allowed. The wording of the email from the 91 Express Lanes implies that natural gas vehicles are also not allowed, since they are not zero emissions.

http://www.91expresslanes.com/generalinfo/commonquestions.asp#7 lists some of the special account types. Vehicles with disabled placards get a discounted toll, but look like they'll need a special account to do so. It does not mention anythinga bout two seater vehicles, and I'm starting to think that this is incorrect as well. I've sent another email into the 91 Express Lanes for clarification.

Once I get the clarification, I'll update the article. As far as references go, how do I properly reference an email?

I looked around and this page does confirm what you are stating, with the account types in a legal agreement. The two seater rule is on most 3+ facilities like the Bay Area toll bridges and the El Monte Busway. It is not explicitly stated on the 91 Express Lanes agreement. Feel free to change as warranted. AFAIK, this article has not been throughly and completely updated recently since the new toll schedules were released in April 2007. A lot of the material still reflects the 2005 policies. Therefore a rewrite may be in order. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 06:17, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
