[edit] Bloodsucker Tales Vol. 2

The presence of the volume was causing me some disconcert as a 30 Days of Night collector, but I noticed that it is impossible (please, correct me if I'm wrong here) to find a rating for the volume, and it collects materials that either still have not yet been released as single issues or had not been released at the time the volume wasv (allegedly) printed. I can only conclude that this was the result of premature solicitation by IDW. Furthermore, Nat Jones, whose first and only 30 Days of Night work appeared in Annual 2005, is accredited in the upcoming Three Tales trade paperback (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933239921/qid=1145044444/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/103-5534875-2153423?s=books&v=glance&n=283155), leading me to believe that Annual 2005 did not appear in any other collection (why collect it a second time?). Sillythekid 19:50, 14 April 2006

What appears to be 30 Days of Night - Bloodsucker Tales: Volume 2 can be found for sale at the following websites - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1933239441/qid=1145035355/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i4_xgl/202-4486501-0814228 and http://www.booksamillion.com/ncom/books?pid=1933239441 DJM_666 19:15, 14th April 2006

As the solicitations given for the trade paperback suggest that material such as the "Journal of John Ikos" was printed in single issue and trade paperback form concurrently and because the cover for the alleged Volume 2 trade is identical to the cover of Volume one (despite disparate subject matter), I assume that no such volume exists. Furthermore, while the other 30 Days of Night volumes remain for sale on amazon.com, I am now unable to find Bloodsucker Tales: Volume 2 on that site or instocktrades.com, two reputable sites. For these reasons, I have removed the volume 2 section from the 30 Days of Night page.--Sillythekid 04:41, 14 April 2006

As far as I know, Bloodsucker Tales was concieved as an ongoing but was cancelled after 8 issues. Case in pont: The Journal of John Ikos was solicited to be the ninth issue of Bloodsucker Tales, but was released as 30 Days of Night Annual 2005. No issues of Bloodesucker Tales have shipped or have been solicited for quite some time, although two issues of a new miniseries, Dead Space, have been released. --Sillythekid 19:04, 9 April 2006

[edit] Film Vs. Other Media Dispute

I thought "other media" was a more appropriate title for that section than "film," as it includes information regarding 30 Days of Night prose novels. The two could be separated, but there is not yet sufficient information to merit a section devoted solely to the film.--Sillythekid

[edit] Rumors of the Undead

Would it be possible for someone to write a section on the paperback novel that was written? I'm certainly not qualififed for it, but I'm sure someone else here who's read it is. --Linktoreality 21:22, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

quick question marlow dies in the the first book (im guessing) does he come back coz i heard eben comes back when he burns from sunlight —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.17.237.13 (talk) 19:40, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spoiler Alert

This article casually mentions that Eben dies at the sunrise. This kinda gives away one of the final elements of the story and should probably be preceded by some sort of spoiler warning.

"Spoiler warnings are redundant when used in "Plot", "Character history", or other sections that are self-evidently going to discuss a plot or similar." See Wikipedia:Spoiler. Sillythekid 06:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

From that spoiler article... "A section header such as "Plot" or "Overview" can be ambiguous as to the presence of detailed spoilers, particularly for a newcomer to Wikipedia." The section in question is labeled Plot. I am an experienced Wikipedia user and was shocked by the casual mention of spoilers in the one paragraph summary of 30 days of night. I'm going to mark it with a spoiler alert. Bigmantonyd 23:14, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Per that guideline, I'm going to change the name of the section to "Plot summary" and remove the silly tag. I think that distinction is crazy, but I don't think it's at all crazy to think that somebody who reads an encyclopedia article expects to be told about the subject of the article, and that sombody who reads the "Plot" or "Plot summary" section of such an article expects to read a discussion of the plot, but does not want to be treated like an idiot. --Tony Sidaway 08:08, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 30 Days of Night: Eben & Stella

I understand that it's bad form to edit a page to which you're directly-connected, and the appropriate place to point out errors is on the TALK page, yes? That said, I am listed as an artist on 30 Days of Night: Eben & Stella -- Justin Randall is the artist. I co-wrote the book. (Kelly Sue DeConnick) Kelly Sue 19:09, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia Section Useless

[edit] Don't know if this is worth pointing out or not

Alaskan law enforcement is done by state troopers and police departments, there are no sheriffs.

The anon who removed the trivia section was me (oops, forgot to log in). Trivia sections should be put into the page or removed, as per wikipedia policy.

  • Alaska actually does not have sheriffs(or vampires for that matter). In reality, Eben Olemaun would be a member of the Alaska State Troopers or the North Slope Borough Police Department which provide police services to the city of Barrow.

There are any number of "unrealistic" elements in the story. Suspension of Disbelief people! :D If you are willing to read a story about vampires, then I'm sure nobody cares whether or not Alaska has sheriffs or not. Floydzamarripa 15:28, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

They may be calling it North Slope Sheriffs Department for a reason in the movie, just to avoid any lawsuits by the actual police department... Bwave 02:03, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Length of darkness

I think one thing worth pointing out in this article is that Barrow doesn't actually get 30 days of darkness--it gets more like 67. Actually, that's just the number of days the sun remains below the horizon. The days get shorter and shorter during the time leading up to that final dip, but once the sun goes below the horizon it isn't like it's suddenly pitch black. There is still dusk and twilight for at least a few hours even in the deepest winter nights in barrow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.210.219.131 (talk) 20:08, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Separate Barrow Article

Could we have a separate Barrow article since Barrow in the film and the comics is bullshit compared to real life? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.74.90.38 (talk) 04:33, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

What? You mean like, Barrow, Alaska, an article that's been on the Wikipedia since 2002? EvilCouch 00:03, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA review

I am failing this article in the good article review because it is not broad in its coverage (criterion 3, I believe). There is no information on critical response, impact, success, etc - just plot summary. Certainly, the article can cover much more ground. Additionally, there is not a single reliable third-party source, only information from the publisher and creator. I would suggest looking into trade magazines that discuss it (Wizard, perhaps?) and glean from there. I think this will be a fairly substantial amount of work so I'm choosing not to put the review on hold. But, really, it's certainly a good start, so don't be discouraged and just keep plugging away!! --Midnightdreary 14:20, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Here's a helpful link, by the way. It might give you some better guidance as to what direction to go from here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/exemplars#Graphic novels. --Midnightdreary 14:30, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vampires, alternate evolution

Are the vampires a sub species of human that evolved along with humans or was it some disease that turned humans into vampires a long time ago and so they created their own culture?

In "Decent", a type of off shoot of human were created that lived underground and were vampire-esc.
