1996 U.S. Open Cup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1996 United States Open Cup was the first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament to include Major League Soccer teams. Originally, four of the ten MLS teams entered the tournament. Five ended up participating, including eventual champion DC United (which replaced the Los Angeles Galaxy due to the Galaxy's congested schedule) and the Colorado Rapids (who replaced the Colorado Foxes when the team could not reschedule its third-round match against Kansas City). The A-League's Rochester Raging Rhinos beat two MLS teams en route to the final, where Rochester fell 3-0 to already-crowned MLS Cup champion DC United.
