Şarkışla is a town and a district of Sivas Province of Turkey. Aşık Veysel, one of the most famous Turkish folk poets and singers of the 20th century was born in Şarkışla, as well as another earlier poet (19th century) named Aşık Sefil Kanberi. The well known Turkish originated female Dutch politician Nebahat Albayrak was born (1968) in Maksutlu village of this town as well. Sarkisla has all charasteristics of central anatolian climate in all seison. The weather is mostly sunny, dry and the clouds are high with no humidity. In the summer it is a better place to live in and in the winter it is very cold here in Sarkisla. There are plenty of constructed dams in and around the town which are used for agricultural and recreational needs. A rencently constructed Baku-Ceyhan oil pipe line is crossing by Sarkisla. The history of this town is very old. Sarkisla is known to be populated through the ancient time of Romans until now and it also has a naturally existing high castle in the middle of the town. There are thousands of people leaving this region to live abroad. Turkish anatolian cultural motives can be seen here. A rich Turkish kitchen and variety of regional foods and meals are to be seen. The town has been a good example for the small villages around the region for the last decades in terms of general improvements in Turkey and in the world. Daily life in Sarkisla is very challenging and colorfull in all aspects, thanks to its own culture and its highly educated population.
