MTV Europe Music Awards je manifestacija osnovana 1994. godine od strane mreže MTV Europe, kako bi se nagradili najpopularniji muzički spotovi u Evropi. Na početku samo kao alternativa američkom MTV Video Music Awards, danas MTV Europe Music Awards slavi ono što gledaoci MTV-a smatraju za najbolje u muzici.
Za razliku od VMA, većina nagrada dodjeljuje se na osnovu glasova gledalaca.
MTV Europe Music Awards uvijek mijenja grad domaćin. Do sada, gradovi Njemačke, Italije i Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva su bili domaćina po dva puta. Njemačka je ugostila događaj po treći put 2007. godine i to u Münchenu, 1. novembra 2007. godine. Također je dana 31. oktobra 2007. godine, najavljeno da će MTV Europe Music Awards 2008 ugostiti engleski grad Liverpool.
Nagrade se dodjeljuju godišnje, a prenosi se uživo na MTV Europe, MTV-u i većini međunarodnih MTV stanica, kao i online.
Do danas, Eminem je dobio ukupno 9 (uključujući jednu sa D12). Slijedi ga Justin Timberlake (5), Muse (5), The Prodigy (5), Linkin Park (4), Backstreet Boys (4), Madonna (4), Britney Spears (5), Robbie Williams (4), Red Hot Chili Peppers (4), Coldplay (4), Spice Girls (3), Alicia Keys (3), Jennifer Lopez (3), Kane (3), Gorillaz (3), and Oasis (3).
