[edit] Gravitas-off ... what can we link to?
What would you consider the base term from which this invented term is taken? Face-off? I think it would be helpful for non-U.S. readers if we could link this to some article that would clarify the concept of a one-on-one competition.Lawikitejana 20:22, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for the pointer. Unfortunately, if we link to that, it will be helpful, but perhaps only marginally so. It would be good if there were either an article or a subsection of the "faceoff" article that explained these derivative uses. Such an explanation would benefit non-native speakers of English (and possibly those from outside North America).Lawikitejana 07:31, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
