ArbCom election

I want to sincerely thank you for your support. Unfortunately under 12 hours have passed in the election process and you are in a minority of 4 supports to 29 opposes, so my candidacy is clearly going nowhere and I have struck myself out of the election. Perhaps next time - thanks again. Stifle (talk) 11:55, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Blacklist

Thanks a lot for the help there it is appreciate. However can I ask you to please log any entries that you make. This may seem a little irritating but in 6 or 12 months time the rationale may be impossible to find and the listing will then be removed by someone. I've just had to do exactly that on a Meta listing than no one logged! Let me know if I can help - cheers --Herby talk thyme 08:31, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Seriously - the help is appreciated. But I get very slightly irritated (!!) at removing (valid?) blacklistings cos I can't find evidence, cheers --Herby talk thyme 08:47, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

New pages patrol...

Hey, I've gotta ask -- Why would you mark Rory westrup as patrolled [2]? It was either pure vandalism, an attack page, or a serious BLP. I mean, things like "weiner head" should set off alarms. As should claims about his mother associated with various colorful activity. SQLQuery me! 10:57, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Because the page was already marked for speedy deletion. That's what patrolled means - someone has looked at it and made a decision. Patrol does not imply "approval". WWGB 11:03, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Heh, oic, sorry bout that then (different time zones... it read to me like it was patrolled long before it was tagged... I was way wrong) :) Long night, Thanks! SQLQuery me! 11:06, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Return of the sock

It looks like another sockpuppet has been created. Take a look at NoMorePolitics talk contribs as relates to Category:Suspected_Wikipedia_sockpuppets_of_MoreGunsInSchools Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Azurbanipal on the Frank Lasee article. There are more than are on the actual list. Arthurrh 19:41, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Another good catch! Thanks! Bagged and tagged. SQLQuery me! 19:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. Additionally LetsGoPitt talk contribs is blocked but not listed in Category:Suspected_Wikipedia_sockpuppets_of_MoreGunsInSchools and another possible is JaneParadine talk contribs
Not a problem :) I got LetsGoPitt, you can feel free to tag 'em, btw, if you want. I'll keep an eye on Jane SQLQuery me! 20:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
See the latest - he's relentless. User:SwimmingHole contribs on Frank Lasee - he's putting the same non-existent category that User:NoMorePolitics did. We may need another temporary semi-protection again. Arthurrh 01:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
So he's been tagged, but somehow it's not in the Category:Suspected_Wikipedia_sockpuppets_of_MoreGunsInSchools. An IP address has now been marked as well 72.33.93.177. Arthurrh 13:12, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Fixed! I think it's listing the wrong user as the sockmaster.... I adjusted the IP's block, too, to all users, not just anons, I'm fairly sure that's where this guy's coming from. It's a short block, however. I also noticed, that the article's been re semi-protected, for another month... That should help a bit. :) Good work! :) SQLQuery me! 13:40, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

About modifying the block, that's no problem. It was quite obvious that was the sock's IP. Spellcast 20:19, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

deck the halls with project templates

I noticed that SQLBot decorated Talk:Paganism with the Christianity WikiProject banner. I'm assuming that's because Paganism is in Category:Christian history. I went ahead and un-decorated it. Do I need to put the page on some kind of list or something so it doesn't happen again, or is it a one-time deal? I'm bot-illiterate. - AdelaMae (t - c - wpn) 10:43, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

I tested it, it appears to be an open proxy (on port 80). It seems like we trust it's XFF headers, however, as when I edit with it, the IP I'm using shows up. Can you confirm? SQLQuery me! 11:59, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Nope you definitely have the techy edge on me, my approach is rather blunter - I look for listings. Sorry but thanks for the work --Herby talk thyme 12:10, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for unblocking me. Please could I have my user page, which some admin deleted, replaced? There was no harmful content on there and it's allowed for m to adjust that, right? Is it possible to restore a version of the page? Thanks for all the cooperation, --ELLIOT PRIOR (talk) 13:16, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but, we're really not supposed to overturn other admins deletions / blocks / protections, unless it's an emergency. I'd reccomend one of two routes:
A) Just ask the deleting admin, on their talkpage, here: User_talk:Khukri. I bet they'll undelete it, without an issue.
B) Failing that, ask at Deletion Review. You really should try A) first, however.
Hope this helps, SQLQuery me! 13:24, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Beretta-xtrema2.png

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Beretta-xtrema2.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:30, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Which specific free image is it replaceable by? SQLQuery me! 15:08, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

If someone named SQL could NOT frustrate me, then you wouldn't be living up to your username. I had 3 simultaneous ANI's, which one I deserved, so my mindset was not good at all. The reason for the need for history cleanup on WP:ACC on the 6th

Thank you for nominating me for adminship.

The reason that I needed a history cleanup of WP:ACC at that time was actually a very simple reason, but I didn't want to mention it until I knew that Oversight had dealt with it. The reason was that I saw a request that had a password listed. I decided that I must act carefully to minimize the chance that some user would see it:

  1. The page needed to have an innocent looking edit (to anyone who didn't take too close a look at the differences) in which I remove the passowrd. I successfully created the requested account, and left a comment about that - and removed the password.
  2. I needed to have the page deleted - I didn't trust Oversight to get to it quickly enough, so I felt that an "innocent" history cleanup was needed.

I did sent oversight an e-mail soon after placing the speedy tag, but I couldn't make sure they had removed the revision until after I became an admin - and my top priority was to keep everyone away from that revision as much as possible. Now that it was removed, I feel that I can reveal the information - and that I owe you an explanation. Od Mishehu 07:29, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Wow, great work! :) Now I'm really glad I nominated you! Had I known about that, however, I would have deleted it a little more 'quietly', and, gotten in touch with an oversighter directly to have it resolved :) Either way, the project won big on that one...
Hey -- if you use IRC, I'm generally in #wikipedia-unblock-en. We could always use more eyes there! :) Again, congrats on the adminship! SQLQuery me! 07:44, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

RE: Your Deletion

As a reason for deleting my Wiki article "Criticisms of Einstein's Theory of Relativity" you allege that the text is "a word for word copy" from a www.antirelativity.com discussion page which I posted on September 25. For your information, in August I wrote all the text that I included in this Wiki article. On September 24,I first tried to contribute it to the Wiki article on History of Relativity Theory, the edit history of which is here, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=History_of_special_relativity&diff=prev&oldid=160028141, in yellow. However, I did not then have the time to learn the necessary mark-up language. So the following day, September 25, I posted it on the antirelativity.com discussion page essentially asking if anyone could post it for me. I have since learned mark-up. Although I again attempted to contribute it to this same article, I have recently come under the impression that this text would better serve the public as the beginning of a separate Wiki article. The Antirelativity.com registration agreement does not include a transfer of copyright notice or agreement of any kind. Therefore, this text is mine and its use by me in a Wiki article cannot be a copyright violation. And therefore, your reason for deleting this Wiki article is groundless. I respectfully request that you terminate your deletion and reinstate this article.RAmesbury (talk) 15:52, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

SQL, also note " A college student who accepts this task will be eligible for financial assistance." - so RAmesbury could either be that author Raleigh Amesbury, or such a student having received financial assistance. No further comment needed I guess? Cheers, DVdm (talk) 16:14, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm fine with it, if another admin wants to undelete it, for any reason whatsoever. Between xmas shopping, and, a 16 hour shift tonight, I won't be on for a day or so. Heck, maybe Deletion review would be a good place to start. I've really got to go right now, however. SQLQuery me! 17:11, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3

Thank you for your support (and the refresh button!). The nom was quite a ride! And a very close call, but I'm very happy that the third time turned out to be the charm.  :) Now, especially since it was such a controversial nom, I'm going to take things very slowly. Plus of course it's the holiday season, so there are plenty of off-wiki distractions! I'm working my way through the exercises at the "admin school", and will phase very gradually into my use of tools. Thanks again, and have good holidays, Elonka 01:34, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I deleted it as a WP:CSD#G10 (the talkpage that is) as far as the image goes, not much we can do, it's tagged as a disputed image, if no source / copyright is added in 7 days, it'll be deletable per I4. SQLQuery me! 19:53, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

A new flavor of SALT

Hello, I'm dropping you a note because you are listed on Wikipedia:Protected titles/Specific Admin as an admin that is maintaining a personal SALT page. Recent software updates now allow deleted pages to be protected just like other pages. Please consider migrating any pages on your personal list to normal protections, and clearing them off of your list. There still may be situations where a personal list may be the best way to handle a page though. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 02:50, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
