[edit] Off the Record

Off the Record was not their first EP, having previously released a five track EP, Is This Life? under the bands previous name, Blaik. A couple of songs from that EP have found their way onto Beautiful Hum I think. --Falcadore 01:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Can you prove this with sources? — H2O —  02:12, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
I own the EP, having bought it, directly from Steve Blaik, at a concert of theirs in a club in Brisbane. --Falcadore 02:16, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Do you know if it was released commercially, or if they only sold copies of it at concerts? — H2O —  02:20, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
CD Universe dosn't note its existence (CD Universe also says Beautiful Hum has been released, but we'll ignore that for now). — H2O —  02:22, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
No idea, but it does exist. As does the bands former name. This EP was made in 2003, song list - Favourite Addiction, Is This Life?, Save Me, Hero In Me and The Way of the World. There is also listings relating to the bands old name here:
That seems to be good enough - I'll add it to the article. Thanks, — H2O —  02:42, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA Review

I think the article just needs a little bit of maitnence, such as clearing up just a bit of the prose and explaining a bit more about the band itself. Other than that the article would be OK. As of now I am putting it on hold until these small problems are fixed. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 23:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

I've put in the article everything I can find about the band from reliable sources. I'm sorry, but there isn't much more I can do - they're rather new. Dihydrogen Monoxide 08:34, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry about more info then. I understand because the band is really new and usually new bands do not end up giving out reliable sources like interviews or anything like that. I have been requested to point out specific examples of the prose where it should be changed. Give me a minute or two and I'll post it right below this comment. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 15:54, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay, here we go:
  1. "Small Mercies was first established when the band members were teenagers; Blaik, Procopis and O'Brien all attended high school together." - This does make sense (as the semicolon separates the two clauses), but the normal reader might find it a little bit confusing. it would be better if it were something like "Small Mercies was first established when the band members were teenagers since Blaik, Procopis and O'Brien all attended high school together." This is just a minor change.
  2. "Later, in 2003, the band renamed to "Blaik", and developed an unofficial EP, Is This Life?. - The sentence just states that the band was renamed to "Blaik", but why? Is there any explanation for the name change? If not, then that part is OK (except for a standard grammar error which I will probably fix myself).
  3. "Blaik said he was a fan of original INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence's ability "to create so much power and emotion", of Powderfinger's dedication and uniqueness, of Neil Finn's songwriting capabilities, and of The Cruel Sea's live performances." - This is probably the most confusing sentence. First, a minor detail, the first clause should be slightly rearranged to say "Blaik said he was a fan of original INXS lead singer, Michael Hutchence, and his ability..." The reason is because though the original phrase is how you would normally put it, the whole sentence becomes slightly wordy and confusing. Next, the next couple of clauses give other examples of what he was a fan of, but since the first clause (whether you use the original one or my revised one) was a bit wordy and elongated, the rest of the sentence seems run-on. Try separating the last parts into another sentence. The sentences could still be fixed some more but since this is only a GA nomination, it does not have to be perfect. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 16:19, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I think somebody else must have edited this article because I specifically remember some more examples. However, they are gone now, leaving these as the only flaws. In fact, I will probably try and fix most of them since they are very minor. Once they are fixed, I think I am ready to pass the article. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 16:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Since out of most of the problems I saw, almost all of them are gone, and since the only problem left cannot be fixed (the problem where we need more info on the band, which nobody can find since the band is new), this article is ready. Parent5446(Murder me for my actions) 16:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
They had been looking for a band name for sometime and weren't happy with previous names but still needed a name in order to promote shows. I do not have a written source, having had it told to me from the band directly, thus constitutes original research. So there's the 'why', but it can't be incorporated into the article. --Falcadore (talk) 12:56, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

OK, cool, thanks. Dihydrogen Monoxide 07:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pellet Gun

A single by this name was released either earlier this year or last year some time. It's shown up in a few places, being used in the sound track of Thank God You're Here, which also mentions an older track, also presumably commerically released 'Don't You Know Who I Am', and also appearing on a compilation CD titled 'Power On: Rock Hits Vol 1' which was related to the Lexmark Indy 300 motor race. --Falcadore (talk) 20:04, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I'd like to see this confirmed by some sources (not just citing the TV show) before adding it to the article =/ Dihydrogen Monoxide 07:52, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Well if the Thank God wiki page I already gave you with listed tracks used on the show wasn't enough, then try this:
We can't cite the Thank God You're Here article, we need an independent source. I added the other info though - [3] Dihydrogen Monoxide 08:09, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Album release date

CLEARLY, there is a massive image in the top right corner of their home page, it says 'Small Mercies, Beatiful is Coming' with a countdown clock and a date 'May 24 2008' [4] (i'm not sure, but you could be using firefox with images off or something?). Now if information coming from the band themself isn't accurate then i'll be damned. Oh but wait, the March release date is obviously more credible, especially considering it is April now. Your thoughts Mr. Monoxide? kiac (talk) 02:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
