[edit] Mixed reviews?
I removed the following text:
- She's So Unusual received mixed reviews on its release (its sole Grammy was for Janet Perr's Album Package). In recent years, however, the album has been re-appraised by the music media, and songs like "Time After Time" are considered pop classics.
That text made it sound as though She's So Unusual was not respected by critics or the industry at the time of its release, and only was recognized as an important album in later years. But that's not true. Many critics were favorable toward She's So Unusual in its time; the album placed 11th in the annual Village Voice Pazz & Jop poll. [1] That means 50 professional critics (out of 240 surveyed) ranked it as one of the year's top 10 best albums. And at the Grammys, the album was nominated for Album of the Year, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" was nominated for Record of the Year, and "Time After Time" was nominated for Song of the Year. If that isn't enough, Lauper won the Grammy for Best New Artist. It's hard to argue that the Grammy voters failed to appreciate an album if the artist who recorded it (as her only album at that time) won the Best New Artist prize. --Metropolitan90 02:25, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
