Monmouthshire (Welsh: Sir Fynwy) is a county in the south-east of Wales. From the end of the Middle Ages until the year 1968 Monmouthshire was a part of Wales for some things and a part of England for other things. Then in 1968 Parliament decided that it was in Wales.
The chief town for government is Cwmbran. The county council meets there. Other important towns are Newport, Monmouth and Abergavenny.
