Marta Colvin Andrade, (1907-1995) sculptress.

born in Chillán on June 22nd, 1907 and passed away in Santiago on October 27th, 1995. Its artistic performance began in Chillán, years after marrying and forming a family. After the 1939 earthquake, Marta Colvin took root in Santiago and had the opportunity to apply in the Belle Arts School of the University of Chile. Their teachers were Julio Antonio Vásquez and Lorenzo Domínguez. In 1943, she works as junior instructor of the Vasquez Factory, assuming the titular position as professor in the year 1950. In 1948, she traveled to France to continue her formation in the Academy Grand Chaumiere with the sculptors Ossip Zadkine and Henri Laurens. Also, she knew on the new tendencies through works of Constantin Brancusi and Hans Arp, attended courses of History of the Art in the Louvre, dictated by professor Jean Cassou, and of Aesthetic in the Sorbonne, University of Paris, with professor Sourieu. In 1951, she was invited by the British Council study in the Slade School of the University of London, England. Fundamental in his development was the contact that maintained with the sculptor Henry Moore, who was its supervisor of studies and taught her to value the pre-Hispanic cultural tradition. She developed great part of his work in France. The talent of Marta Colvin, was recognized world-wide through the location of its sculptures and by obtaining of prizes in important spaces and events in Europe, Asia, the United States and South America. By its figure and relevance in the history of the Chilean art was distinguished with the National Prize of Art on 1970.
