Film criticism is the evaluation of a film. People who write their opinions about films in newspapers and magazines or talk about films on television or on radio shows are called film critics. Some film critics also write books about films and the history of films.

Some film critics studied film or film history in a university before becoming a film critic. Other film critics are people who have experience making films, for example as a film director or screenwriter. Some film critics studied other subjects in university that are related to film, such as English Literature or theatre.

- Film theorists study the way stories are told in movies, and examine how film directors, screenwriters, and cinematographers use images and sounds on the movie screen. Film theorists usually work in universities, in film studies or media departments. Some film theorists, such as Francois Truffaut are also involved in other film-related jobs, such as being a film critic and a director.
