I am working on revamping the AC Wikipedia page to get it up to the standards of other Texas private universities. I am mostly following the examples set by the Baylor/SMU/Rice/Trinity pages while also coming up with AC-individualized content. If anyone has anything they would like to add, feel free to do so, but please don't vandalize the content I've put up already. Frecklegirl 19:06, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I can't help but notice that the user Jackkelley1410@hotmail.com has added a graf about four "nationally-known" professors. We should note that the corresponding articles were entirely written by him, and comprise the near-entirety of the user's edits. I don't know if this falls under WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_soapbox or WP:N, but it's noted here for posterity. (He quickly RRed me, and I'm not looking to start a 3RR problem). I apologize profusely. It was never my intention to violate Wikipedia guidelines and I do not believe that I have done so. I am alum of Austin College. The professors that I noted, some of whom I never took a class from and do not know personally, do have national reputations as academics and are very well-known by many people in this nation. I have reviewed the academic stubs on Wikipedia and feel that these Austin College professors are just as accomplished as all of the persons, and more so than many, who biographies appear there, some of whom are linked at their colleges and universities. I also submit that these professors are, to my view, at least as well-known nationally as some of the baseball players and other athletes whose biographies appear on Wikipedia and whose biographies are linked to pages dealing with their sports and teams. However, as a newbie, it is my pleasure to respect the fact that Woodshed does not approve of noting the national reputation of these professors on the Austin College pages. For that reason, I have taken them down and would most certainly not be in favor of it being noted on any Wikipedia page that any educational institution has nationally-known individuals on its faculty.Jackkelley1410@hotmail.com 00:25, 10 August 2006 (UTC)21:25, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm an alum of AC too, and I agree there are really good professors there. But I don't feel I'm in a particularly good position to judge which ones are "nationally known". For one thing, I don't know what that means. And I don't know how one would ajudge that. If you can provide some sources for such a claim, feel free to do so. (I was a poli sci major, and was always told that Shelley and Ken Street were bigwigs in the poli sci academic world, but who knows if that's true?) Additionally, from my (perhaps flawed) memory, I don't think many university and college articles tout individual professors.
I encourage you, though, to not take my word for it. Hopefully someone with more experience will pop up and comment here. Or, you could ask over at WikiProject Universities. The most important thing, in my opinion, is to note (and preferably cite) WHY the persons in question are famous.
But generally, Wikipedia is not a place to push an agenda, no matter how well-intentioned. Woodshed 03:55, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I have looked through college and university pages, in following your good advice, and notice that a number of them list "Notable Faculty Members" which link to Wikipedia pages for those who have Wiki bios, and of course to some that don't have them either. In the latter case, I guess that invites expansion. Take a look, for example, at Auburn University which has such a listing -- most of whom don't seem any more accomplished that the ones at AC that started our Talk Thread. I merely mention Auburn because of its alphabetical proximity to Austin College. I have found many others at other schools too. I have read the Wikipedia guidlines regarding notability WP:N and believe that the biographies that I recently did certainly don't violate those criteria, in a similar way that the Auburn listings (and many others on other college and univesity pages that I could point out) don't either. After all, these really are notable people in academics. Would it be acceptable to you to add such a listing to the Austin College page under the title "Notable Professors?" If so, I would invite you and other alums to expand the list in any case that was felt in a mutual WP:N concensus.Jackkelley1410@hotmail.com 02:41, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Why was this article tagged for not citing any sources? ANY sources? There are plenty of sources cited--the official website most notably, which is cited multiple times. See those numbers at the end of sections? That's a citation. I am removing this tag until someone can tell me how things aren't being cited. Frecklegirl 19:58, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Lists are too long
The notable faculty and alumni lists seem to be way too long. I will give this a little time, but if no one says or does anything, I'm going to remove all of the names that aren't wikilinked. It's reasonably fair (or at least, creates a fair measurement) to say that if the person is truly notable, he or she would have a Wikipedia biography. Chicken Wing (talk) 00:40, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
