Talk:Atyrau
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The city is located both in Asia and Europe, as it is divided by the Ural River (by local tradition; by international sources the border between Asia and Europe is by Emba river). If the international convention has the border being the Emba, rather than Ural River, then it shouldn't be placed in the Transcontinental Cities category Nik42 02:49, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Total population
Someone had put 330,000 in the infobox. It was completely out of synch with the text, which said less than 150,000. The same thing was done in a few other languages by the way. Actually, with nearby urbanized "villages", the population is 200,000, while the oblast has more than 400,000 - so I have no idea where the former number came from. I have also changed the ethnic figure. All that is on the basis of official numbers given by the oblast: http://www.e-atyrau.kz/eng/
That page also quotes the distance to Astana, rather than to Almaty. Perhaps we should do the same? --Paul Pieniezny (talk) 00:41, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
