- What about the controversy from the obvious colonialism and imperialism of the character (and possibly the author) that most foreigners can't be understood and anything of value must be taken from them?

- Answer: Weinbaum was trying to make his Aliens more strange, for while humans can be understood easily, the unusual phsycology of Tweel lends more to his martian heritage. Tweel, also, gives WILLINGLY to Jarvis and his crew. He is portrayed as a highly intellegent creature, fully capable of understanding people where they don't understand him (well, technically it, because he has no gender).
