The wireless communications have become very important in the last few years. One of the most important branches of wireless communication is wireless local area network (WLAN) to transfer data, voice and image between mobile nodes. Spread spectrum (SS) is the most important and most commonly used transmission technique in WLAN. In this graduation project a survey was presented about wireless local area networks from point of operating frequency band, topologies, construction and transmission techniques. The concept of spread spectrum, its classification, its applications, its advantages and disadvantages and finally codes used in spread spectrum was studied. We put specifications for the transceiver based on direct sequence /code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) technology, then it is simulated using Matlab on block level then using Orcad on component level to recognize the output of each stage. Finally it is implemented for realization of the specifications. The results of different transceiver stages are shown. This transceiver uses the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) application band and has data rate 9.6 kbps, chip rate of 144 kbps with maximal length (ML) code, processing gain 15 and carrier frequency of 1152 KHZ and using of binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation.
