Vladimir Majakovski (1893-1930) je najistaknutija pesnička ličnost ruskog futurizma i prvih godina revolucije i sovjetske vlasti .
Bio je osoben kao ličnost , kao pojava , kao pesnik . Od početka je bio buntovna i dinamična priroda , otvoren u nastupima i raspravama , čovek protesta i dinamičnog shvatanja života . Kao pesnik bio je inovator , uveo je u poeziju leksiku ulice , ekstatičan ton , eksplozivan jezik , neobičan rečnik , citate , nove žanrove poeme , stepenast stih .

Majakovki je jedan od osnivača ruskog futurizma . Godine 1912. pojavio se "Šamar javnom ukusu" , manifest ruskog futurizma , koji su potpisali : David Burljuk , Aleksandar Kručonih , Vladimir Majakovski i Viktor Hlebnjikov . Uveo je nove žanrove poeme : Lirske reportaže, lirsko-epske poeme , lirsko-fantastične poeme .

Živeo je snažnim , dinamičnim i punim životom čoveka i pesnika , a umro je tiho i povučeno : ubio se aprila 1930. godine . Taj njegov čin ostao je tajna . Pjesnik je javno izjavio "Mrzim sve ono gde se smrt javlja i snuje! Obožavam život pa ma kakav bio ." On je osudio samoubistvo pesnika Sergeja Jesenjina , ali je u oproštajnom pismu napisao : "Ovo nije način (drugima ga ne preporučujem) , ali ja nemam izlaza . "
