Subject: Wikipedia, Wikimedia and screenshots of Foo's games
Dear Sir or Madam, I am a member of the Wikipedia community. I am writing to you with several questions concerning the possibility of taking and publishing screenshots of your games. Wikipedia <http://www.wikipedia.org> is an online encyclopaedia written collaboratively by volunteers. There are several language versions of the site. The English Wikipedia is able to illustrate its entries with images and screenshots of computer games as such practice is considered fair use. However, it is not possible for other language editions of Wikipedia, as the fair use rule is incompatible with the European Union copyright laws. Therefore we seek your permission to take and publish (possibly low-resolution) free screenshots of your products. The necessary conditions for including illustrations in the European versions of Wikipedia are that the licensing of the images allows their republication, creation of derivative works and commercial use. If you are willing to grant us the right to take and publish the screenshots, please specify under what licence we are allowed to do that. The possibilities are: * public domain - no restrictions * attribution - the only restriction is crediting the owner of the copyright * CC-BY-SA - the owner of the copyright is credited; the republication is allowed only under the same conditions * your own terms, as long as they do not restrict the rights to the republication, creation of derivative works and commercial use. Such terms can include for example the requirement to provide a link to your homepage under the image, etc. If you agree, you will be the second company (after Ubisoft) which allows publishing screenshots of their games under a free license. Thank you, -- Yours sincerely, Name Surname
