Česko-Slovenská vlajka ako jediný zo symbolov prijatých parlamentom republiky 30. marca 1920 stále platí.

Použitie modrého klinu na bielo-červenej vlajke sa zdôvodňovalo tým, že modrá farba vlajky reprezentuje Slovensko. Trojuholníkový klin podľa podpredseda ústavného výboru Hnídeka, ktorý pred hlasovaním o štátnych symboloch uviedol, že modrá farba vlajky podľa neho vyjadruje tri vrchy na slovenskom znaku.

V ľudovej tradícii sa hovorilo o bielej ako o farbe čistoty, červená mala pripomínať krv preliatu za slobodu a modrá pokojnú, bezoblačnú oblohu. Výška klinu siaha až do polovice. Modrý klin vyhovoval aj ideologicky: modrá farba so zvyšnými dvoma dokonale splývala a naznačovala tak jednotu a nedeliteľnosť štátu. Klin spĺňal aj požiadavku viania a smeru. Vlajka sa dala ľahko zhotoviť a bola zreteľne odlišná od symbolov iných štátov. Po veľkých sporoch sa stala 1. januára 1993 vlajkou Českej republiky. Modrá farba na nej sa už interpretuje ako symbol Moravy.
