Gastrotheca is een geslacht van kikkers uit de familie Amphignathodontidae (vroeger: Leptodactylidae). Er zijn 53 soorten, die ook wel buidelkikkers worden genoemd. Deze naam is te danken aan de bijzondere voortplanting; als het vrouwtje haar eitjes afzet, worden deze door het mannetje met de achterpoten in een huidflap op haar rug geduwd, waarna hij ze bevrucht. De larven worden zo door het vrouwtje meegedragen en beschermd. Het laatste deel van het larvale stadium vindt plaats in het water, waar de larven zich ontwikkelen tot kleine kikkertjes.
Alle soorten leven in tropische regenwouden in Zuid-Amerika, van Costa Rica en Panama tot Brazilië en Argentinië.
