Welcome, Zir!

Hello, Zir, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm Redvers, one of the thousands of editors here at Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

  The five pillars of Wikipedia
  How to edit a page
  Help pages
  Tutorial
How to write a great article
  Manual of Style
  Fun stuff...
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

But also... I noticed that you edited someone else's comment for clarity, spelling or grammar. As a rule, refrain from editing others' comments without their permission. Though it may appear helpful to correct typing errors, grammar, etc., please do not go out of your way to bring talk pages to publishing standards, since it is not terribly productive and will tend to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. For more details, see Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thanks, ЯEDVERS 19:35, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BBC Project Logo

The boxes at the top are are a smple of the type of boxes logos that BBC have had in its lifetime. I dont think there was a grey version unless it was a black and white version of the TV-Colours box. Unisouth 16:17, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:BBC

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the BBC WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of the British Broadcasting Corporation.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Unisouth

[edit] BBC logo

The BBC squares (when together as three) and all other BBC logos are licenced as Logos and therefore can only be used in the article namespace. However the font used in the latest boxes (gill sans) can be used anywhere. The page you mentioned does not allow grey boxes. Unisouth 08:07, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Society of Television Lighting Directors

Society of Television Lighting Directors has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt the subject might not be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability for the relevant concerns. An example of notability guidelines can be found at Wikipedia:Notability (websites). If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the "prod" notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod notice, the deletion process will stop, but if an editor is still not satisfied that the article meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion for consensus. NickelShoe (Talk) 16:44, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

I've just said this on the talk page:
I've just removed the "prod" warning because I object most strongly - please tell me how the article needs to be improved and I shall endeavour to do so. Perhaps MER-C would like to try typing "STLD" into any search engine and it will come up with this society high in the rankings (most UK ones will put it at the top) only on Google is it beaten by STEEL DYNAMICS, INC. who use STLD as their short code on the Stock Exchange. I can think of better "Entertainment industry societies" for this treatment, but certainly not this oneZir 17:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IPod Index

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article IPod Index, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Yeah. See my reply at the same page. --Tagishsimon (talk)

[edit] Fair use image on your userpage

Hello Zir, I have removed Image:BBC Logo pre 1997.gif from your user page as it is a fair use image. Under fair use criterion #9, such images cannot be used outside the article namespace. Thanks, mattbr30 23:25, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] BBC English Regions

Thanks for your note. I just hope that they don't all start getting redirected again! Angmering 19:30, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Newsroom

Hello. It looks good now, my concern was that there just seemed to be too many images within the article. What's left now space out nicely. You've done a very good job by the way in expanding the history section. Wikiwoohoo 20:34, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Testcard c.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Testcard c.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Erm, Got me 2015 and 9th December mixed up I guess??? Marcgr

Yep, great minds do think alike. Do you mind if I undo your change or you can do it if you want? I was actually in the process of changing the refereneces to use Wikipedia:Citation_templates Marcgr 09:58, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Go ahead with your change re: NatEx's press release Marcgr 10:10, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm kind of new to editing pages on Wikipedia. I'm quite exited to have created a new page though. It's kind of wired how NatEx now have all of BR's former Eastern Region!!!! Marcgr 10:10, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use disputed for Image:IPodgra.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:IPodgra.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 18:29, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding edits to Red telephone box

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Zir! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule redtelephonebox\.com, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links guidelines for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! [edit] BBC One

The third paragraph of the History section of the BBC One article does contain the information that you (rightly) consider important:

BBC television initially used two systems, on alternate weeks: the 240-line Baird system and the 405-line Marconi-EMI system, each making the BBC the world's first regular high-definition television service…

That is in addition to the same information being in the footnote from the article's first paragraph. — Walloon 00:37, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

It's the fact that now there's no mention of the intermediate film system except in the footnote Zir 00:52, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] London Gazette

I don't know if it's still relevant, I've been using special:Linksearch to check for links to the London Gazette website, so I noticed that your draft page had a link there for Moira Stuart's OBE. There's recently been a revamp of the London Gazette's website, so old links no longer work. I've generally been uprading such links to use {{LondonGazette}} as this should make maintenance of links easier, but I'm mostly leaving user pages alone. Since you ahve the issue number, you should be able to find the new url fairly easily, if you still need the reference. David Underdown 13:55, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Batc.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Batc.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:07, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
