You Belong to the City

"You Belong to the City" is a rock song written by Glenn Frey (of the Eagles) and Jack Tempchin, and recorded by Frey during his solo career. It was written specifically for the television show Miami Vice in 1985. The song nearly reached the top of the charts, peaking at #2 on the U.S. charts. This song, along with Jan Hammer's "Miami Vice Theme", helped the Miami Vice soundtrack album reach the top spot of the charts for 11 weeks in 1985, making it the best-selling album of the year and the most successful TV soundtrack of all time. Frey performs this song live when touring with the Eagles.

The rapper/record producer Jay-Z sampled part of "You Belong to the City" for his single, "The City Is Mine".
The song also was used in a video tribute to the 1986 World Champion New York Mets at Shea Stadium in August 2006.
An instrumental version of the song was also used on an episode of the FOX television series Married… with Children, when Al and Steve went out looking for a Barbie doll they accidentally sold which belonged to Marcie.
A re-recorded version of the song was featured on an episode of the Comedy Central animated television series, Drawn Together, titled "A Very Special Drawn Together Afterschool Special". In the episode, the cast are participating in a role-playing to help Xandir, a gay video game adventurer, tell his parents he is gay. The song is featured when Xandir's role-playing parents are searching for Xandir, who has run away, and at the end of the episode, when the cast join hands on a stage and bow to the audience in a parody of the musical Cats.
