[edit] Speedy deletion of Nancy Salisbury

A tag has been placed on Nancy Salisbury requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for the comment. You did a nice job of pulling the information together and getting the article started. It is my pleasure to help improve it. Truthanado (talk) 19:10, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] James L. Ryan

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of James L. Ryan, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.micourthistory.org/resources/jlryan.php. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 20:38, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "born" to "b."

In the guideline WP:DATE it is clear that a person's date of birth is preceded by "born", not "b." Please stop making wholesale changes that do not follow the guideline. Chris the speller (talk) 03:51, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

You're right, "born" is not needed when BOTH dates are provided, but it's needed for people who are living. Let's hope "born" is needed in our own articles for quite a while yet (if we ever get articles). Happy editing, and drop by my talk page if there is ever anything I can help with. Happy New Year! Chris the speller (talk) 06:29, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 3 January 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Sylvan Fox, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] WP:Birds?

Judging solely by your username, you seem to be interested in birds. Would you like to join WikiProject:Birds, a project dedicated to improving all things avian, including sapsuckers. Happy new year. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 05:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Naomi Almeida

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Naomi Almeida, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 01:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

It looks fine, the prod template is there, I would let it take its course. If something happens and the article is not deleted, then you can take it further.. Edit Centric (talk) 01:54, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I'd like to see it deleted per NN/MEMORIAL. Furthermore, it's a dreadful legacy for the parents of that young girl to have this lingering on Wikipedia like this. If it was recently created, I'd have speedy-deleted it myself per WP:CSD#A7. Thanks for pointing it out, R - Alison 02:26, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, per the last deletion review, which was closed as "No consensus", with 10 deletes and 5 keeps. I'm speedying this per A7. This already came up at the AfD - Alison 02:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Redirecting people's names to constituency articles

Hi - please don't create any more of these redirects! It makes it much more difficult to spot which individuals do not yet have an article, and there is usually little or no biographical information on them in the constituency articles. Warofdreams talk 10:38, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Linking dates

Hey Bird - for future reference, according to WP:DATE#Autoformatting and linking, you should insert wikilinks to dates "only if it is likely to deepen readers' understanding of a topic". Other than that, great cleanup work. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 22:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sienna Miller

I consider your removal of the filmography questionable. Rather than revert I've added to it to Talk:Sienna Miller and requested comments. Wwwhatsup (talk) 22:03, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

This person's article is under the provenance of Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers and one of the goals of that project is to complete and table filmographies. A link to IMDB isn't sufficient, isn't encyclopedic, and can oft times be inaccurate. Filmographies are an integral part of an actor's biography. Wildhartlivie (talk) 22:43, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Vince, Stephanie, etc.

I was not aware of that, and I thought you were just changing info for around for no good reason (which happens far too often with wrestling articles. My apologies. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 01:02, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] McName

You recently changed the DEFAULTSORT argument for Eugene McCarthy to Eugene MacCarthy citing an improvement in sorting. Is there a discussion and resolution about this preference somewhere in a WikiProject that you could point me to? Also, it is highly desirable to add an edit summary for each change - I'd ask you to use it as much as possible. Thanks.--Appraiser (talk) 18:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Ditto with your edit on Mike McGavick changing the format to Mike Macgavick. I'm a little confused on the logic of this. Sorting McName in with the MacNames will cause confusion in the categories as people are expecting alpha sorts in the list and putting a lengthy pile of McNames in front of the Mad* names messes up that expectation. See Category:Irish-American politicians for an example. --Bobblehead (rants) 18:36, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Surnames starting with "Mc" should be indexed as "Mac" to assist category sorting; this has been the case for a long time now. Surnames starting with O'M or O'H (for example) are indexed as Om and Oh. The latter reindexing (O's) has already been completed by other editors as far as I know, so I stick with the "Mc" names.Yellow-bellied sapsucker (talk) 18:24, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

The example I looked at put "Mace" after "McCarthy". I can't think of any reason to do that. Has there been a discussion reaching a consensus on this?--Appraiser (talk) 19:11, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes I just noticed you did the same thing on the George McGovern article. Like the person above I don't understand what the purpose is in doing this. Is there is a discussion somewhere where consensus has been reached to start doing this?--Jersey Devil (talk) 19:40, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't know what example you looked at (Mace after McC), but [1] is how it is supposed to look, as you can see there are a lot of name left to be done, but I'll hold off until this is resolved. Believe it or not I wasn't doing it b/c it's fun. Yellow-bellied sapsucker (talk) 19:20, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

From your example, it looks as if you'd like ALL "Mc" names to be at the top of a list of "M" names. I can understand that concept, but adding a single "a" ("Mac") will not accomplish that, as names like "Mace" (Nancy Mace in Category:American memoirists) will fall in the middle of a series of "Mc" names. An interested project needs to come to consensus about this (perhaps the good people at Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland would have an interest).--Appraiser (talk) 19:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
It also looks like a majority of the McNames are default sorted to Mc rather than Mac, or at least that is the case in the random assortment of Irish people and Scottish people categories that I took a look at. There are some categories with a hodge-podge, but most have Mc sorting after Mb. Having the O'Names default sorted by OName makes some sense to me as people generally do not associate ' with an alpha sort, so having them all appear at the top of the list of the O section might be confusing to some.--Bobblehead (rants) 21:43, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't think you should be changin these at all since they screw up sorting in category (McM does not alphabetically come before Mad, for example, but you are making it be sorted that way). You haven't cited what policy/guideline/consensus supports what you are doing. TJ Spyke 08:42, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Brandt C. Louie

I have nominated Brandt C. Louie, an article you created, for deletion.
