Vyshneve (Ukrainian "Вишневе") is a town in 2 km to the south from Kyiv. The history of the town begins in 1886 when the building of South-west railway was arranged. As in that the nearest settlement was village Zhyliany (Ukrainian "Жуляни"), so the railway station was called "Zhyliany". Until 1912 nobody lived here, only workers came to change each other on the station.
In the period of Civil war Vysneve's territory was the place of bloody battles between Reds and Whites troops.
In the period of "collectivisation" peasants were settled around the station. So the population was increasing.
In WWII Vyshneve was also a battlefield where till the 8th of August in 1941 were fought Soviet and German troops. 365 inhabitants were awarded by state prizes for glory and heroism.
In 1946-1956 was built the base of modern Vyshneve: was opened a school, was arranged a council of a town, built new streets. In 1960 the population reached to 4000.
In 1971 the settlement of Vyshneve was proclaimed by the Ukrainian Higher Council (parliament) as a town.
Nowadays the population is about 60,000 people, exist 4 schools, 5 childrengardens, cinema, clinic, 2 orthodox churches, hospital and other elements of a modern town.
The chairman of the city (mayor) is Anatoliy Goshko.
