Hello,

I am Vonkje -- a Dutch approximation to the English word "Sparky" as in the character "Sparky-the-Penguin" in the comic strip "This Modern World" by Tom Tomorrow (aka Dan Perkins). I joined in April 2005. I have recently been scaling down my participation due to a sociology that ignores quality control issues. (See some remedies below).

[edit] Quality Control Issues

If there were four policies to improve quality they might be:

• Ban anonymous edits and use real names.
• Require all citations within the text of an article with each cite to a refereed paper.
• Prohibit all self-citation -- At least one notable computer scientist stubbornly insisted on citing his own work. This introduced bias into articles on concurrency that favored the actor model. The policy on No Original Research needs to be strengthened here, lest I bore you with self-cites of my own published work through technical reports and the ACM.
• Protect articles in mathematics and the sciences from the trolls.
