From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine is a unique college in that it is a state supported college of two states, Virginia and Maryland, filling the need for veterinary medicine education in both states. It is one of 28 colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States. Students from both states are considered "in-state" students for admissions purposes.
The school is considered a constituent college of both the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and the University of Maryland, College Park. The main campus of the school is located on Virginia Tech's campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, and it maintains a branch on Maryland's campus in College Park, Maryland. It also has an Equine Center in Leesburg, Virginia. The college's program is designed to be finished in four years. The first three years are spent at the Blacksburg campus. For the final year, students do clinical rotations at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg, and with private practitioners, with some students doing rotations at the branches at College Park or Leesburg.
