José Vinicio Adamés Pineda (March 1, 1927-September 3, 1976) was a Venezuelan musician, and director of choral gropus, was born in Barquisimeto, Lara state.
From very young started his vocation for music, thanks to violinist Francisco de Paula Medina. Subsequently, he enters at the Santa Cecilia Music Academy, where Doralisa Medina gave him piano and vocalization lessons. During his studies at Lisandro Alvarado High School, founds in May, 1948 a choir for the institution. After he graduates as baccalaureate, traveled to Caracas to study dentistry at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV). In parallel, enters at the UCV University Choir as a soloist and instructor of strings instruments, taking classes with Alfredo Hollander and Inocente Carreño at the School of Music of Caracas. In 1951, along with his sisters Yolanda and Shirley conformed the Adames Trio, being a popular group at radio and television.[1]
After the Central University was closed, he founds and directs the Miranda Choir and the Eulalia Buroz school choral group in Los Teques. When the university is reopened, he enrolled at the Faculty of Economics Sciences. For 1958, graduates with a degree in International Studies.
The UCV University Choir underwent a reorganization during July, 1958, gaving its first concert on August 14, under the direction of Adames, that was the beginning of a succession of more than 2000 presentations in Venezuela, United States and Europe.[1]
In addition, Adames also led the Chamber Orchestra of the Central University of Venezuela, the Chamber Orchestra of the University of Carabobo, the Panama Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra of Caracas, the Shell Choir, the Choral of the Social Security and the Metropolitan Choral Group, that he founded in 1969.[1]
In 1965, the UCV University Choir participates at the First International festival of university choirs, at the Lincoln Center in New York City. In 1967, the U.S. government gave to Adames a scholarship for a direction course with Robert Shaw at the Oakland University, Michigan. He was married with Rogelia Mujica Marcano, with her he had two children.
Adames, was also in charge of the Central Bank of Venezuela Choral, recording in 1973, an album of Venezuelan folk music. During his lifetime created a great number of artistic ensembles at the Pedagogical Institute of Caracas, composed many choral pieces and made arrangements for Venezuelan folk music.[1]
Vinicio Adames died on September 3, 1976, along with the members of the UCV University Choir, in a aircraft accident at Lajes airport, Azores Islands,[2] during a travel to Barcelona, Spain, for the participation of the group at the "Festival Internacional del Canto Coral".
A park in Caracas and the Choral group of the Central Bank of Venezuela were named after him.[3]
