Over a month into his trip, Paul Merton arrives in Shanghai and stays in the world's tallest hotel. He goes to a golf club with a successful local businessman. Merton is taught how to dance by Lena, who the following day shows him round her favourite places; a market followed by a traditional costume shop, where he and Lena dress up in traditional costumes. He attends a dinner party with a group of female socialites. Merton and Emma later visit Thames Town, a new town where the houses and shops are in an English style.
