[edit] New german accessibility-Projekt
Hello surueña. I am very happy, that I have found your accessibility-project. I try to find out, how blind persons could work the best way with the MediaWiki-Software.
Unfortunately my Englisch is not good enough for writing but I can use it for reading.
In Germany we have a new project, called "BIENE", which want to make the german Wikipedia more accessible for persons with handicaps. Therefor a german user imported your Accessibility-page and the page "Usability/Infobox accessibility" from En.WP to make a translation. If someone reads this, who is able to read german, he/she will find the german BIENE-Project at http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:BIENE
Thank you for your great work! I am sorry, that I am not able to communicate with you or users like Graham87, but I know just a few english words and understand max. 70 % of what I read. :-) -- Lalue 10:11, 30 July 2007 (UTC) .

[edit] Template:Zh-s
Hi, we've been having a bit of a problem with Template:Zh-s in that the output of the roman characters is showing up in a non-standard Asian/CJK-style roman font, which differs from all the other text at WP. You can see this in the box at Wonton, in which the roman characters (reading "Mandarin" and "Cantonese only") in the "Simplified" area are showing up in a non-standard font.
In contrast, Template:Zh-t produces no such problem. It seems that the output was in a standard font until an edit you made. Whatever you can do to restore the normal font would be greatly appreciated! My coding skills are not good enough. Many thanks, Badagnani 19:52, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Badagnani. I'm afraid I can't give you a simple answer, sorry. There is no problem with templates {{zh-t}} or {{zh-s}}, and probably neither with template {{chinese}}. The problem is that in the wonton article the template is not properly used, because it is intended to use only a simple word in traditional or simplified Chinese (respectively), but not also English text. Let's see, the HTML code generated is something like this:
<span lang="zh-Hant">1. <a href="...">餛</a><a href="...">飩</a> (Mandarin)<br />
2. <a href="...">雲</a><a href="...">吞</a> (Cantonese only)</span>
That is, the template {{zh-t}} specifies in the 'span' tag that the language is traditional Chinese text (zh: Chinese, Hant: Traditional Hanzi. For more info see template:lang), and therefore the browser uses an adequate font for Chinese, but not for English text (anyway, that visualization problem happens in your browser+OS+fonts, I have no problem at all).
Well, what can be done? I've tried with something like {{lang|en|(Cantonese only)}} to specify that that part is in English, but this doesn't work. The best solution is to use properly the {{Chinese}} template. Probably new sections for Cantonese and Mandarin should be created, anyway they are different languages. Propose this improvement in the talk page, I think this is the best approach. Cheers —surueña 10:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

- A similar problem occurs with the Vietnamese name fields (Sino-Vietnamese or native tonge) [1] and Japanese name (historical and modern kana name) [2]. —surueña 14:41, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hey
The folks over at Policy Village pump are asking for examples of when your accessibility-related edits have been reverted. You wanna bop over there and tell them? It's Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Changing a guideline to a policy. Thanks -- L'Aquatique talktome —Preceding comment was added at 05:15, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sigh, you are much better spoken than I. I have such a temper at times! I just have little patience for people who don't respect others... Thanks for keeping me in check. : ) L'Aquatique talktome 21:19, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- You are welcome! Also, I would like to ask you something: I'm not a native English speaker, and I don't really understand the title of the discussion "Field trip, anyone?" what it really means, I'm curious. Cheers —surueña 21:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sure thing. When you are in school and your class takes an educational trip somewhere during school hours, like a museum, it is called a field trip. I was joking around, saying that we should move our "class" over to my sandbox for a moment. I'd love to write more but I'm going to be late for work!! Thanks again, L'Aquatique talktome 21:42, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Aaah, OK, thanks. Yes, this will be a really long trip. Thank you for being a founding member of the project and promote this —surueña 21:47, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Opinion
Hey there. I know you have a good idea of design style from an accessibility perspective. It would be nice if you could give a third opinion about {{Americanfilmlist}} - which works better, this version or this one? If you have time I'd appreciate a comment from you on the template talk page. Regards, violet/riga (t) 11:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Placement of navigation templates
Hello Suruena. I noticed that you moved a few navigation templates so that they appear after the introduction to the article. Is this a general rule we're trying to enforce, for the sake of accesibility? If so, I could fix these as I notice them in the future. ---- CharlesGillingham (talk) 01:50, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I move navigation templates for accessibility reasons just below the lead section so it appears just before the TOC. That's because those templates are a lot of links and blind users navigating to the next section (the TOC) would miss a part or the whole lead section. But please note that's only for navigation templates, but not for infoboxes (it's OK this important info is the first data of the article). See WP:ACCESS#Lead section. Cheers —surueña 09:57, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Spanish language assistance
You might be interested in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Mediation Cabal#Help me!, i am looking for an advocate wikipedia is making me feel nervous. The editor in question, User:HappyApple, needs some help from a Spanish speaking advocate, and you apparently speak Spanish. If you could help, please reply there. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 22:12, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi John, I have read that thread and the referenced discussions in the Spanish Wikipedia, but these don't have any references to the conflictive edits. I can't tell whether HappyApple doesn't like consensus, or Dodo is abusing his power (I don't contribute much to the Spanish wikipedia either, so I don't know they). But I can tell you that HappyApple is writing misleading translations of Dodo's words or simply lying. That blog post quoted by HappyApple says quite the reverse: Dodo is against those wikipedians who justify their actions saying that readers and newcomers are stupid. It is not a sarcastic text or something like that, so if HappyApple is a spanish speaker I doubt any misunderstanding could be possible. So I would assume here HappyApple has bad faith, and he is just trying to justify something that cannot be justified. Best regards, —surueña 03:52, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- Very useful information. Thank you very much. John Carter (talk) 14:30, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
