The word stop has several possible meanings in the English language, but most commonly means to cease moving.
Additionally, stop can refer to:
- STOP Programme - (An acronym for "Straight Thinking On Probation") - In some jurisdictions, offenders of certain offences, especially sexual offences, are put on a STOP programme to modify their criminal behavior.
- Stops (Dynamic Range), the amount of contrast between black and white in video, film, and still photography
- A stop consonant in linguistics (also known as a plosive or occlusive)
- Aperture, a structure that limits the diameter of a light path in an optical system
- f-stops, a unit of measure of aperture
- Exposure (photography), a relative measure of exposure
- Stop squark, the supersymmetric partner of the top quark, in particle physics
- Stop codon in genetic code.
- Full stop, a punctuation mark known in the U.S. as a "period" and shortened to stop in telegraph messages
- The point on an animal's head at which the muzzle meets the forehead
- Blue Screen of Death, an error in Microsoft Windows or Windows-based operating systems
- Stop, a brand name climbing device made by Petzl
