From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stephen Oates (born January 2, 1984 in Falkirk, Scotland) is a Scottish semi-professional footballer currently without a club.
Oates signed for East Stirlingshire in 2000. He can play in defense or midfield. He is 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) and weighs 12 stone 2 lb (77 kg). At the end of the 2004/5 season Oates was voted the Fans' Young Player of the Year, despite being older than the all-age winner( Connor, 2005). He continued to play regularly throughout the 2005/6 season, making 21 full appearances and eight as a substitute ( Sky Sports Football Year Book, Rollin (2006)) . Described by Connor (ibid) as a physically gifted but impetuous player, Oates was sent off for two bookable offences during the 2006/7 season[1]. He scored in the club's 3-0 win over Albion Rovers on 29 March 2008[2] He left Shire in May 2008, rejecting a new contract offer.
