Staging post
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Staging post was a place for passing travellers to stay the night and have food before continuing with their journeys the next day. Also a place to feed and water their horses and to offer the horses rest.
Similarly it is a military or naval base, the prime purpose of which is to allow personnel to rest, regroup and often to refuel, while travelling long distances.
