Stéphane Chapuisat (nickname: Chappi; born June 28, 1969 in Lausanne) is a retired football striker. Chapuisat scored 21 goals in 103 caps for Switzerland and played in the 1994 World Cup, Euro 1996 and Euro 2004.
Chapuisat started his professional career with hometown Lausanne Sports, moving in January 1991 to Bundesliga's Bayer Uerdingen, switching to powerhouse Borussia Dortmund in that summer. He stayed at Dortmund until 1999 when he transferred to Grasshoppers Zurich, playing there for three years. In 2002 he moved to another Swiss Super League club, BSC Young Boys, before rejoining Lausanne in the second division, retiring at 37.
At club level, Chapuisat won the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund, in 1997. He was voted Swiss Footballer of the Year four times, in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 2001, and scored 106 goals in 228 games in the Bundesliga.
In November 2003, to celebrate UEFA's Jubilee, he was selected as the Golden Player of Switzerland by the Swiss Football Association as their most outstanding player of the past 50 years. [1]
