[edit] Rivalry with Service High School
The opening of South drew a significant amount of students from Service High Schools student population. These defections led to a heated rivalry between students who stayed and those who left. that stuff stopped when the class of 07 graduated because that was the last class to transfer because south was opened in 04-05
In the fall of 2004 the Service High School field was vandalized with fertilizer. The fertilizer was spread to spell out SOUTH across the field, the field which which had been in disrepair for years consisted of dead grass for the most part except for the lush green grass spelling out SOUTH across it.
With football being the first sport host a game between the two schools in the fall of 2004, the rivalry between the two teams was heated. South fielded a team with 27 seniors who had transfered from Service and won their initial match up 21-20 in overtime. Ryan Dougherty was named player of the game for his vicious running attack against the Service defense.
South has yet to lose in a game to Service after 4 seasons.
[edit] Clubs
South Anchorage High has several school clubs. One of the most underrated is the Fencing club, which was first established in late 2006 by Wade Withington. After he graduated the same year, the remaining fencers appointed Alexa Dobson as the president for the 2007-2008 school year. Since her inauguration, the Fencing Club has suffered from a sad lack of new students.
[edit] Higher Opportunities
South Anchorage High offers Honors level courses for 9th and 10th graders and Advanced Placement courses for 11th and 12th graders. Many AP Courses ranging from Literature to Physics are available.
