I don't think this belongs in the Starfighters category, as I believe that in the Expanded Universe, they state that it requires an atmosphere for operation, like a modern plane. Oberiko 19:25, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

  • I removed it from the category. Maybe the starfighters category should simply renamed "fighters," to allow atmoshpheric craft. -LtNOWIS 04:58, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Why Snowspeeder?

Why has this vehicle been named a "Snowspeeder" in the merchandising world. There are at least 2 reasons that I can think of why it shouldn't be called that.

1. No character refers to the vehicle as a Snowspeeder. Actually, Han is the only one that ever refers to them and he calls it a "Speeder". Though this is probably a shortened name.

2. Why would the rebels be having trouble adapting a "Snow" speeder for cold weather operations? As stated by a technician when Han asks if the "Speeders" are ready when preparing to go search for Luke, who hasn't returned from his security patrol.

It should more correctally be called an Airspeeder, in that it uses movable surfaces to control attitude and maneuver while in flight. The only reason I can think of for calling it a Snowspeeder is that you only see them used on Hoth, but that would be quite a coincidence for the Rebels to just happen to have such highly specialized equipment for the off-chance that they would end up on a world where it would be useful (plus reason two stated above). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.153.239.164 (talk • contribs)

If you can provide a an official source that calls this vehicle an Airspeeder, it can be renamed. Until then, it stays "Snowspeeder", regardless of the evidence against the name. Note that I'm not saying you don't have good rationale, I'm just stating that we can't arbitrarily rename ships just because we want to. EVula 21:31, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't suggesting that the name be changed, I was just wondering how the vehicle got named a Snowspeeder, especially since it wasn't called that in the movie (among other reasons). I don't have any evidence that it was supposed to be called something else. It's just always struck me as wierd that the rebels would have trouble adapting a Snowspeeder for use in cold weather. "Airspeeder" was just my idea for a different name that would more correctly describe the vehicle. Since there are several vehicles in the Star Wars Universe that use the word speeder in their names it would be unlikely that this particular vehicle's name was just Speeder (as Han referred to them). I must have guessed pretty good though. Check this out: http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/snowspeeder/

[edit] Snowspeeders are not modded A-Wings

Snowspeeders are actually modified versions of the T-47 Airspeeder. Snowspeeder refers to the version designed to take into account the freezing temperatures of Hoth.

this page needs to completely be rewritten as airspeeder 69.251.13.209 17:26, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Esb-Snowspeeder.jpg

Image:Esb-Snowspeeder.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:06, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
