Samarahan

Samarahan or Kota Samarahan is a town, and the capital of the Samarahan District (407.1 square kilometers) in Samarahan Division, Sarawak, east Malaysia. It is located on the South China Sea, about 40 kilometers from Kuching. The district population (year 2000 census) was 50,600.
Kota Samarahan is almost a suburb of the greater metropolitan area of Kuching, in the Kuching Division. It has a concentration of universities and educational facilities and thus forms Sarawak's research and development centre. Institutions of higher learning in the area include Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Tun Abdul Razak Teacher's Training College, Industrial Training Institute Samarahan (ILP), Technology Park Sarawak, Sarawak International Medical Centre (SIMC) and the Dato Traoh International School.
