Russell Shorto
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Russell Shorto, born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is the author of a book on the Dutch origins of New York City: The Island at the Center of the World. He often writes for The New York Times Magazine and GQ. He also wrote Gospel Truth and Saints and Madmen. The research for his book about New Amsterdam took him three years.
Russell is the Director of The John Adams Institute in Amsterdam.
His current work-in-progress, Descartes' Bones, traces an odd and twisty little path through the past three and a half centuries: it is a story that deals with death, history, philosophy, and, perhaps ultimately, love.
