Revelation is the first studio album with vocalist Arnel Pineda (current lead singer of Journey) and features 11 new songs (Faith in the Heartland was previously recorded with Steve Augeri), 11 re-recorded greatest hits and a DVD of a live concert. Penned by Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain, two singles were released to radio in April 2008, the distinctively Journey-sounding "Never Walk Away" and the haunting ballad "After All These Years", both of which have now received extensive airplay on rock stations throughout the US.

The album was released in the US on June 3, 2008 exclusively through Walmart, and released in Europe on June 6, 2008, through Frontiers Records.

On May 14, 2008, MelodicRock.com reported that Journey and Frontiers Records agreed to add "an exclusive original bonus track, "Let It Take You Back", a mid-tempo rocker, to the European release to close the album.
