Guyana is divided into 10 regions:
- Barima-Waini
- Pomeroon-Supenaam
- Essequibo Islands-West Demerara
- Demerara-Mahaica
- Mahaica-Berbice
- East Berbice-Corentyne
- Cuyuni-Mazaruni
- Potaro-Siparuni
- Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo
- Upper Demerara-Mahaica
Each Region is administered by a Regional Democratic Council (RDC) which is headed by a Chairman. In addition there are a number of Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) within each Region. These operate at the local or village council level.
The regions are divided into 27 neighborhood councils.
