Rechov Sumsum

Rechov Sumsum is an Israeli educational television program for preschoolers that is based on the American Sesame Street. Later aired as Rechov Sumsum / Shara'a Simsim, as an Israeli/Palestinian co-production, and now in 2007 the new season aired at HOP! Channel with Moishe Oofnik and new Muppets and Actors.

This first original Israeli version of series was the most popular. More than 200 episodes were produced and broadcasted between the years 1983 and 1986 in the educational television channel, it won an immediate enormous success amongst the kids of Israel. The puppet segments were taken from the American series and dubbed to Hebrew (the same has been done in all other Israeli versions of the series), but every other aspect of the production was completely Israeli : The program took place in an Israeli neighborhood street in which children and adults played together, original connection segments were added in which Israeli children shared a view to their lives. The series had a parallel character to Big Bird - a big hedgehog, by the name of "Kippi" and a parallel character to Oscar the grouch, by the name of "Moishe Ofnik".

[edit] Shalom Sumsum (The second series) (1989-1990)

The program Shalom Sumsum was an Israeli-American production which combined Americans actors, such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Meara, Jerry Stiller, and the Israeli actors that participated in the original Rechov Sumsum, and it was broadcasted between the years 1989 and 1990. In addition, the famous violinist Yitzhak Perlman participated on a regular basis in this series. The series was first intended for broascasting in the US and therefore it was taped completely in English and later on dubbed in Hebrew for the Israeli viewers.

• Kippy ben Kippod - a porcupine equivalent of Big Bird on Sesame Street.
• Moishe Oofnik - a brown grouch, similar to Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street, who lives in a broken car.

• Brosh - an orange muppet, he likes cleaning.
• Mahboub - a young blue muppet who speaks both Hebrew and Arabic
• Abigil - a young Purple Muppet, she likes to play and is happy with everyone.
