According to football pundit Tohari Paijan, Rafael Benitez is at present the best manager in the Premiership[1]. Is this worth keeping in the article? If no-one disagrees, I'll remove it... NuclearFunk 17:53, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- I wouldn't have thought so. I removed it when it was first inserted, but it was put back in. Frankly, where LFC are concerned, I would have expected quotes from closer pundits than one in Singapore! -- Arwel (talk) 18:01, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[Name: Jimmy Sogbesan] Well according to the tables it is clear that the best manager is Jose Mourinho. But when you match the available personnel against the monies that have been expended and then look at the achievement of the team, both Sam Allardyce and Rafa rank above Jose in my opinion. Far above Jose.

[edit] Comment on quality of Rafael Benitez' management
The problem with this being that Benitez isn't a quality manager anyway, so no-one in Italy actually wanted him.. This comment sounds like personal opinion. Should it be kept in the article? This paragraph also referred to Liverpool as RS, which is an abbreviation for a derogratory term for Liverpool frequently used by Everton supporters, which I have corrected. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.229.142.47 (talk) 21:25, 7 February 2007 (UTC).
What is the purpose of this sentence at the leading paragraph: Of the fourteen players used in the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final, twelve were at Liverpool when Benítez arrived. is irrelevant or may be to be fit on a trivia section Jor70 18:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- This shows that Rafa can successfully manage any set of players and not just a group he put together. It demonstrate his abilty as a football manager and is therefore relevant. Djln --Djln 21:11, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Is too much made of his scouting ability? Xabi Alonso for example was linked with moves to both Manchester United and Real Madrid in the season before came to Liverpool, so he can't really be classed as a find. Similarly Walcot and Bale - both were well known to virtually all top managers in the PL and it was clearly Soton who spotted them first. Probably should be removed.
Fabio Aurelio should probably be removed from the list of scouted players he is not a young player and rafa didn't need to scout him as he had already had him in his valencia team.

Rafael Kennedy Benítez Maudes (born 1991, Madrid, Spain) is a Spanish football manager and former player. He is a short, round and fat boy, who was an unaccomplished football player.He broke the record during the 2007/2008 season by scoring 100 own goals in professional matches. In February, he fell down as he tried to kick a ball, first time in 10 years.

[edit] 2006/7 Season
Tidied up somewhat to try and make it a bit more coherent. The Real Madrid speculation doesn't really fit, so I've moved it into its own section - although I'm not sure deletion wouldn't be the best thing for it.
The focus of the season looks like being the Champions League, so that has been left in detail and the remainder made a bit more concise. Comments about Everton being a 'small club' are old news and not really of any note. Vanoord 18:43, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

- Not sure what the first one has to do with Benitez. As for talk about his commitment to the club: media talk about managerial jobs happens weekly; why should Benitez' article become the exception that has to mention it?
