[edit] Best manager?

According to football pundit Tohari Paijan, Rafael Benitez is at present the best manager in the Premiership[1]. Is this worth keeping in the article? If no-one disagrees, I'll remove it... NuclearFunk 17:53, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

I wouldn't have thought so. I removed it when it was first inserted, but it was put back in. Frankly, where LFC are concerned, I would have expected quotes from closer pundits than one in Singapore! -- Arwel (talk) 18:01, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
I removed it, so now let's just wait and see what happens. I don't see any justification for that quote belonging there... Perhaps in LFC's article-section concerning their popularity...NuclearFunk 18:17, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[Name: Jimmy Sogbesan] Well according to the tables it is clear that the best manager is Jose Mourinho. But when you match the available personnel against the monies that have been expended and then look at the achievement of the team, both Sam Allardyce and Rafa rank above Jose in my opinion. Far above Jose.

[edit] Re-edit

In response to requests for better article, I have written a more extensive account of Rafa's career. Hope u approve. User Djln--Djln 22:20, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comment on quality of Rafael Benitez' management

The problem with this being that Benitez isn't a quality manager anyway, so no-one in Italy actually wanted him.. This comment sounds like personal opinion. Should it be kept in the article? This paragraph also referred to Liverpool as RS, which is an abbreviation for a derogratory term for Liverpool frequently used by Everton supporters, which I have corrected. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.229.142.47 (talk) 21:25, 7 February 2007 (UTC).

What is the purpose of this sentence at the leading paragraph: Of the fourteen players used in the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final, twelve were at Liverpool when Benítez arrived. is irrelevant or may be to be fit on a trivia section Jor70 18:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

  • This shows that Rafa can successfully manage any set of players and not just a group he put together. It demonstrate his abilty as a football manager and is therefore relevant. Djln --Djln 21:11, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Is too much made of his scouting ability? Xabi Alonso for example was linked with moves to both Manchester United and Real Madrid in the season before came to Liverpool, so he can't really be classed as a find. Similarly Walcot and Bale - both were well known to virtually all top managers in the PL and it was clearly Soton who spotted them first. Probably should be removed.

Fabio Aurelio should probably be removed from the list of scouted players he is not a young player and rafa didn't need to scout him as he had already had him in his valencia team.

[edit] Age, description, and everything else in the first paragraph

Rafael Kennedy Benítez Maudes (born 1991, Madrid, Spain) is a Spanish football manager and former player. He is a short, round and fat boy, who was an unaccomplished football player. He broke the record during the 2007/2008 season by scoring 100 own goals in professional matches. In February, he fell down as he tried to kick a ball, first time in 10 years.

Someone's clearly messed with this page, but I don't have the facts to put the right information in. I'd take a guess that he isn't 16 though. BlackbeltMage 06:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Looks like vandalism to me... reverted Vanoord 08:28, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Some prick (I don't apologise for calling them that) has been messing about with the page again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.100.44.92 (talk) 00:12, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 2006/7 Season

Tidied up somewhat to try and make it a bit more coherent. The Real Madrid speculation doesn't really fit, so I've moved it into its own section - although I'm not sure deletion wouldn't be the best thing for it.

The focus of the season looks like being the Champions League, so that has been left in detail and the remainder made a bit more concise. Comments about Everton being a 'small club' are old news and not really of any note. Vanoord 18:43, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Beard

Why on earth was my peice on Rafa's new beard deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.212.35.158 (talkcontribs) 00:41, 1 July 2007

Ignoring the relevance of the section, surely it would make sense to make it accurate considering the beard was seen about a week before the Torres signing when Sissoko signed his new contract? LFC.tv. Tarff 15:34, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rafa's Height

The column on the right says he's 5' 7", that can't be right surely? (Dunno how to sign, sorry, erm 10.30ish pm/Sep 11th 2007/Emma. Will that do?) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.129.250.14 (talk) 21:29, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Picture of Benítez

The picture of Rafael, I find hilarious. Is it really the best picture of him available to wikipedia or was it choosen by one of his enemies? :) 89.129.188.41 19:03, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/7252400.stm & http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/7251312.stm are worthy of inclusion. I am hesitant to work them into the article as other edits have been reverted.Londo06 13:10, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Not sure what the first one has to do with Benitez. As for talk about his commitment to the club: media talk about managerial jobs happens weekly; why should Benitez' article become the exception that has to mention it? If you don't like the guy, that's fine, but he's still the manager of Liverpool. - Dudesleeper / Talk 15:25, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

The BBC have the right to their opinion, as do you, but it doesn't mean it belongs in a Wikipedia article. Until the Liverpool board state that his job is under pressure, you should move on from the subject. - Dudesleeper / Talk 06:01, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Protection

I do believe it's time to spoil the broken-record IP user's fun and protect the article for the foreseeable. - Dudesleeper / Talk 14:55, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
