Dr. Rafael Francisco Alburquerque De Castro (born June 14, 1940 Santo Domingo) is a Dominican politician and the current vice president of the Dominican Republic under President Leonel Fernández since August 2004 and re-elected in May 2008. Alburquerque born on Santo Domingo on 14 June 1940, eldest son of the Lic. Rafael Alburquerque Zayas-Bazán. Serves as Coordinator of the Social Security System and the Social Cabinet of the Dominican government. Rafael has been picked up by the President Fernandez Reyna, as his ballot companion for his second consecutive presidential term, by the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
Doctor Alburquerque was Secretary of Labour since 1991 to 2000 and president of the Delegation of the Dominican State to the Conferences of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999 y 2000. President of the Commission of Technical Cooperation in the Conference of the ILO in 1999. Special Representative of the General Director of the ILO for the collaboration with Colombia from September 2000 to June 2001 and Member of the Commission of Experts of the ILO since November 2001.
