The République class was a type of two pre-Dreadnought ironclads of the French Navy.
The République marked a significant evolution in the design of French ironclads, with less significant tumble-home than her predecessors, better sailing qualities, larger size and more firepower. The launch of HMS Dreadnought rendered the class obsolete, yet the ships served during the First World War.
The design was further improved with the closely related Liberté class battleship.
